You need to point out 5 basic things.

i.Be able and willing to produce long responses to most questions.

ii.Produce a range of different linking words/phrases.

iii.Linking phrases are sometimes used incorrectly.

iv.Use some marker language (e. g redundant language).

v.There is some hesitation/self correction.

Ans. well you know, I am from Dhaka city and you might know these it is the capital of Bangladesh. In addition, it is located middle part of Bangladesh which is famous for Mosques.

i.Ability to use lest common words

ii.Use of idiomatic language

iii.Paraphrasing (explaining words that you do not know)

iv.Ability to talk about unfamiliar topics

v.Ability to covey precise meaning

ii.Examples of uncommon words.

iii.Some use of idiomatic language.

iv.Some examples of collection.

v.Ability to successfully explain – vocabulary gaps

vi.Some vocabulary may still be used incorrectly.

How often do you use email?

Response 1…. I sometimes use email for various purposes/ when I need to send email.

Response 2…To be honest,when I need to send mail to my friends,I usually use email.Otherwise I sometimes use it.

Response 3…Well as I am technophile person,I love to use email .Probably you know that email is the-state-of –the-art technology therefore all of my daily works rely on this method of communication.

3.Grammatical Range and Accuracy(1-9)

  • Sentence formation
  • Use of clauses(subordinate etc)
  • Use of complex structures
  • Range  of tense use
  • Error density (the amount of errors in ease sentence)
  • The level of error(whether the error occur in basic or complex structures)


  • A mixture of both basic and complex structures.
  • Basic structures are produced accurately.
  • Complex structures may contain errors.
  • The grammar errors do not seriously influence meaning of the sentence.
  • Tenses are usually formed correctly but not always used correctly.


  • A wide range of sentence structures and tenses

  • Examiner can understand most of the candidate’s language quite easily.
  • Some evidence of intonation.

  • Examiner can fully understand candidate’s language (may have occasional problems).

  • There may be some mispronounced words.
  • A first language accent may still be present.

The Marking System-The overall score

The candidate is awarded four different scores and the overall score is an average of these scores. For example:

  • Fluency and Coherence 5
  • Lexical Resource 5
  • Grammatical range and Accuracy 6
  • Pronunciation 6

The average of these four scores 5.5

In the IELTS speaking test, scores are rounded up or down to the nearest half-band (5.5 5.5 6.0),so in this example the candidate would score an overall 5.5 for speaking.

5.25=55.5= etc.
